It can’t be denied that fashion is a form of art. Fashion designers create beautiful pieces of clothing and pair them with accessories: art! Freedom for each person to express themselves with the outfits they wear: art! But what about a fashion launch that looks like an art pop-up exhibit?
Opening at the Broadway Epicenter on Thursday, March 31st, is Prada Tropico - an immersive, pop-up experience that will be accompanied by a special capsule collection.
The launch will begin on March 31st and last all the way until April 24th and will feature multiple combinations of colored stripes and hypnotic effects. This original landscape is inspired by the colors and atmosphere of distant lands and expresses Prada’s key visual traits in a modern “pop” language.
The entrance to the Prada in-store installation will be marked with large, ivory-white, and green striped columns, which will give the visualization of a stylizing tropical forest. Hundreds of hats of various colors made by Prada, models, and materials will look like leaves and flowers growing off of green metal trunks and branches. The floors will continue with this pattern and suspended in the air will be the Prada logo illuminated, which will be the centerpiece of the scene.
The windows will feature intense, contrasting color pairings with geometric patterns to create graphic effects, which can show oppositions between the interior and the exterior of the store. It creates convergence as well as divergence with juxtaposition with horizontal and vertical lines in green, white, black, blue, red, yellow, and orange.
The space will also be featuring a special collection of Prada, ready to wear, with shoes and accessories that mirror the same vibrant energy, with colorful stripes being featured in the garments - flowing silk blouses; mini, calf-length, and full skirts; vibrant pajama inspired looks; and casual men’s shirts and shorts.
The same hues are repeated throughout the accessories: striped hats which were constructed with raffia, nylon, and cotton drill materials. The Prada Triangle bag, which will be another interpretation of Prada’s iconic triangle style, will be available in leather and raffia.
Prada Tropico isn’t just stopping in New York. While the Broadway store will have the pop-up experience from March 31st - to April 24th, other Prada stores will be offering the same experience. The Los Angeles Beverly Hills store will have the event from April 7th - to May 1st. Then the Miami Design store will be the last with the event, opening on April 14th - to May 9th.
