Aerin Lauder on Her Latest Fragrance

By Samantha Yanks | January 10, 2018 | Style & Beauty

With a brand-new, appointment-only New York shop and an opening in Palm Beach, Aerin Lauder pauses to catch us up on her sweet new scent, Hibiscus Palm.

Clockwise from top: Aerin Lauder; Linen Rose Cologne, $170; Tuberose Le Jour Parfum Spray, $215; Hibiscus Palm Body Cream, $60.

You just opened the doors to your Palm Beach shop while simultaneously launching your 10th eau de parfum! What drives your love of creating scents?
AERIN LAUDER: I love the outdoors and often find inspiration there whether it’s for home, fashion accessories, or beauty. All of the AERIN fragrances are based on oral notes and personal memories.

What is the inspiration behind your newest fragrance, Hibiscus Palm?
AL: I am completely exhilarated by a trip to a tropical destination. These special getaways and my memories of luxurious locations inspired this wonderful fragrance. I recently traveled to Tulum and fell in love with the culture; it’s a serene location with beautiful, pristine beaches and still feels untouched and remote in some areas.

What are the notes in this blend?
AL: It is an irresistible and unique creation combining the dewy freshness of the palm leaf with the breathtaking aura of hibiscus ower. The accord is inspired by the raw beauty of the tropical hibiscus and offers a crisp, lush green scent that lingers in the air.

Did your new store in Palm Beach influence this specific fragrance?
AL: I love Hibiscus Palm because it immediately transports me to a sunny, beautiful location. When it is cold and gray in NYC, I dream about Palm Beach and its beautiful beaches and ower-lled streets. Sunshine, beach, and owers always make me smile.
