Alexis Bittar founded his eponymous collection at the mere age of 22 and wild success ensued, resulting in a sale of his brand to Brooks Brothers in 2015 to fully focus on fatherhood. Now, the style star is back with five new stores in NYC conceptualized by Tony Award-winning set designer Scott Pask—and more exciting news coming soon. We checked in with the maverick on what’s new and what’s next.

How would you describe your sense of style? My sense of style is a little like a small slice of Elvis Costello and bigger slice of casual sporty.

What’s new and what’s next for you? I recently bought my brand and name back… so I am excited to relaunch and have added handbags. They will launch in spring.

What is your style mantra? You don’t need to change yourself or impress anyone. Life is too short for that nonsense. Enjoy the things that make you unique.

For me, fashion is always about: Firstly, deprogramming yourself from all the bullshit the fashion and the beauty industry has taught us about needing to be someone else for the last 100 years, not being good enough, feeling bad about aging, feeling we need to aspire to fit in, etc. Next step, love yourself and have a blast. Fashion should be about having fun with self-expression. Getting excited to try new things.
