Cult brand All Things Mochi has landed in Bloomingdales! This new collection is getting everyone majorly excited for summer. Each collection is inspired by founder Ayahs personal journeys and brings the many different cultures of the world to light.
Mochi was born to support stitching communities and their talented and intricate work across the world. The Mochi team travels extensively to different destinations, familiarize themselves with the cultures and traditions in order to design a collection that truly and authentically represents its origins, aiming to assist these communities by creating jobs and opportunities for work and growth among these women in hopes of contributing to their well-being, morale, standard of living and purchasing power. Not to mention the designs are beautiful.
The Spring/Summer 2019 collection is inspired by the Polynesian culture. For this collection, Mochi has included tiare, which means flowers, to emphasize the strong bond between Polynesians and nature. In addition, the embroidery includes tattoos, known as tatau, in which each line drawn gives an essence of meaning and life to the body. Tie dye print is also incorporated to show the unique Tahitian technique of handmade artwork, created with colors that express the vibrant culture of Polynesia. They have included this tie-dye in a range of styles from sets, to robes, t-shirts, and accessories! We chatted to Ayah about the milestone moment for the brand.
Tell us about the new collection!
AYAH TABARI: The new collection is inspired by the Polynesian culture. The Polynesian culture is all about dance, music, art and the wonders of everyday island life, especially Tahiti. The beautiful people, landscapes and essence captured my heart straight away.
Why were you inspired by Polynesian Culture?
AT: Polynesians are very traditional. They embrace their beliefs and have a strong family ethic. The embroidery in this collection was inspired by Tatau, which represents the story of the Polynesians life and journeys they have faced.
Huge that this collection is in Bloomingdales! Is this a major milestone for your brand?
AT: Absolutely! Every designer dreams of having their collection in Bloomingdales and I am so excited to be working together.
Who is the girl you design for?
AT: The Mochi girl is confident and bold with a chilled boho vibe who loves to feel great in what she wears.
What are you most excited about for this summer ?
AT: I’m having a baby so I’m super super excited to meet him
