Navigating a tight timeline, Amy Kalikow of Amy Kalikow Design reimagines a commercially styled townhouse in TriBeCa as a warm family home.
THE PROJECT
Within the bustling ambiance of TriBeCa, a family of five sought to transform a commercially styled townhouse into a warm, inviting and uniquely designed home. The family tapped Amy Kalikow Design, putting Amy Kalikow of her eponymous firm and her design skills to the test to cater to a family that frequently entertains.
THE DESIGN
The homeowners, with the husband working in finance, sought a quick transformation to welcome the Christmas holiday in their newly designed space. “The couple was very involved in the design of every space and were very in tune with what they collectively were hoping to achieve,” said Kalikow. With a timeline in mind, the transformation journey was not only quick but tasked with adding warmth to a commercial canvas, requiring creative solutions for a comfortable family life.

“THE COUPLE WAS VERY INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN OF EVERY SPACE AND WERE VERY IN TUNE WITH WHAT THEY COLLECTIVELY WERE HOPING TO ACHIEVE.” -AMY KALIKOW
THE DETAILS
Their design leaned on neutral tones accented with vibrant colors, sophisticated lighting, stone selections and custom millwork. Each corner of the home serves a purpose, prompting Kalikow to take a functional approach to design. “They really wanted to capitalize on each space, so creating creative solutions for storage or wall coverage was challenging,” said Kalikow. “The entry stair walls are clad in custom leather panels. Sourcing the leather on the large scale we needed and finding a vendor that would create and install the panels was a challenge. The outcome was fantastic!”
THE OUTCOME
Through creative collaboration and a shared vision, the project not only met the timeline and functional requirements but also embodied the uniqueness and creativity desired by the homeowners, transforming their house into a cherished family home.
Given the homeowner’s wish to entertain, Kalikow ensured that the spaces embraced a welcoming and warm aesthetic with the addition of a Modshop sofa.
