2022 is coming to a close, so naturally, we’re reflecting on one thing: food.
From mouthwatering Italian, to awe-inspiring Japanese, this year was filled with tons of dishes that will live in our minds rent-free.
To help us narrow down the culinary highlights of 2022, we’ve connected with popular food blogger, Ella Kahan, of Chew York City.

Famous for knowing the hottest spots in town before they’re cool, Chew York City has established itself as an authority in New York’s bustling culinary scene.
In light of the popular Tik Tok trend, ‘things that permanently altered my brain chemistry,’ Ella is here to share her favorite dishes of 2022.
Whether you’re on #foodtok or not, you don’t want to miss this!
@chewyorkcity We agree with @Sistersnacking best new restaurant of 2022 (also the chefs are momofuku ko alums so you know it’s gonna be good!)‼️ #eastvillage #newrestaurantsnyc #nycrestaurantreviews #nycfoodie ♬ original sound - Music table
If you know me, you probably know I can’t stop telling people to go to Claud. It was really hard picking one dish but the chicken liver agnolotti was unlike any pasta I have ever had before so had to go with it. Some close seconds include the mille-feuille, the half chicken with foie drippings, and onion bread with anchovy and comté. If there is one new place to put on your list to try this year Claud is it!
@chewyorkcity Trying the best new restaurant in America which just so happens to only be a few hours away in upstate New York #newrestaurantsnyc #bonappetit #newyorktimes #hudsonnewyork #bestnewresturant ♬ Suddenly I See - KT Tunstall
Although Cafe Mutton isn’t in NYC, it’s right outside in the town of Hudson, NY. I recently took a trip up to Hudson and came across Cafe Mutton and the most insane plate of crepes I have ever had. I heard the waitress describe them as “so good you just want to laugh.”
Olly Olly Market recently opened in my neighborhood of Chelsea, bringing the famous LES Forsyth Fire Escape Burrito to my domain. This was one of the most indulgent dishes I have ever had, packed with pork, fried queso blanco, guacamole, and lemongrass chili crisp oil wrapped in a scallion pancake. To die for!
@chewyorkcity The best new Jewish deli brought to you by Court Street Grocers! I grew up going to Barney Greengrass so this is super exciting to have in my neighborhood #chelsea #flatiron #jewishfood #nycfood #nycrestaurantreviews #newrestaurantnyc ♬ Mr Sandman Wukileak - wüki
I grew up as a UWS Barney Greengrass girl, and as a newly Chelsea resident, I felt that we were missing a good Jewish deli. Luckily, S&P’s reopened right near my house. From matzah ball soup, to latkes, to chopped liver, they really have everything you could ever want. But the real winner here for me was the tuna melt on rye. 100% the best one I have ever had.
My experience at Shinji was one of the most magical (and expensive) of the year. Each drink is wheeled out and made table-side with some form of a spectacle. Plus, I have never seen so much caviar stuffed into a hand-roll as I did into their caviar hand-roll (also made table-side). A+!
@chewyorkcity I am obsessed with this hotel and Ignacio Mattos they are literal perfection RUN DONT WALK #lowereastside #nineorchardhotel #nychotels #nycrestaurants #nycbars ♬ Dreams (2004 Remaster) - Fleetwood Mac
This is another one of those spots where absolutely everything was amazing. I know chicken isn’t often a standout dish but all the meats including the chicken and steaks here were so flavorful and covered in the most perfect sauces. Ignacio Mattos is a genius and you should be RUNNING here.
I am a HUGE Leo fan and their pizza is one of my favorites in the city. However, this year I tried their bagels for the first time and was blown away. Warm and fluffy in the center and crunchy on the outside with the perfect pinch of flaky salt. Chefs kiss.
This year, L’'Appartement 4f, which was previously run out of the owner's apartment, finally found a space for their own bakery in Cobble Hill. Their pastries are not to be missed and the croissant is one of the best I have ever had in the city.
I have been obsessed with Forsythia for a long time but one dish that I get every time is the short rib polpetta (along with 3-4 other pastas!) If you haven’t tried their handmade roman pastas this year then you need to get here ASAP!
I could have honestly picked anything from the Laserwolf menu, but the Salatim is definitely the most unique offering in NYC. Main dish prices include the platter of Hummus + Pita, Israeli Pickles, Lutenitsa and so much more and I think it's a really good deal. Plus, you get insane Manhattan skyline views. What could possibly beat that?
