The 10 Must-Visit Korean BBQ Spots In NYC

By:Amy Rosner By:Amy Rosner | May 6, 2022 | Food & Drink

Being wined and dined by your boo is always a good time, but let’s face it, white tablecloths and stuffy red booths are a little too overdone.

Ambiance staler than the Trader Joe’s snacks in your pantry? No thank you.

Cote Korean Steakhouse

Coined as New York City’s “First Korean Steakhouse,” Cote is the temple of all things Korean BBQ–the Carbone of Spicy Rigatoni, and the Via Carota of Cacio e Pepe. While everything on the menu is top-notch, you must order the Butcher’s Feast, an omakase of meats if you will. The chef’s selection comes with premier USDA Prime and American Wagyu Beef, and the most scrumptious of Korean accompaniments you ever did have.

Sik Gaek

Everything at this no-frills Korean restaurant is truly sick. Pun very much intended. Before you mumble and grumble at the location, this top-of-the-line eatery is totally worth the schlep to Queens. And the very expensive Uber bill, because let’s face it, you’re not taking the subway. Our favorite meat is the Bulgogi, which translates to marinated thinly sliced Beef Ribeye with assorted vegetables. It’s perfectly tender, juicy, and oh so delicious.

Antoya Korean BBQ

Described as an “innovative Korean BBQ experience in Koreatown,” this famed Seoul restaurant seamlessly marries modern and traditional. If you’re here to get down and dirty, the Modeum So Gui is non-negotiable. This assorted beef platter for two comes with Prime Rib Eye, Slice Prime Short Ribs, and Marinated Cubed Primed Short Rib. As for appetizers, the meal wouldn’t be complete without an order (or two) of Egg Souflee with spicy cod roe or truffle. Seriously lifechanging.

Yoon Haeundae Galbi

8 W 36th St, Manhattan/Website

This Korean BBQ hotspot lives by the motto “Made in Korea, Styled for New York,” and we couldn’t have said it any better. A spin-off of the South Korean favorite, Haeundae Sommunan Amso Galbijip, this sophisticated establishment pays homage to Korean culture while adding a uniquely New York City flair. You can’t come here without ordering the Prime Package: a bundle of state-of-the-art Short Rib, Wagyu Boneless Short Rib, Brisket, and Dry Aged Ribeye. And if you’re not getting a side of Potato noodles, you’re seriously doing something wrong.

Jongro BBQ

One of the leading chain restaurants in Seoul, Jongro is bringing the heart of South Korean culture straight to the streets of New York City. Ball out with the Large Beef Platter, a delicious assortment of Kalbi, Prime Ribeye Beef, Beef Thin Skirt Steak, and Beef Brisket. While the entrees are some of the best we have ever tasted, we're forever indebted to the appetizers. Beef Tartare Bibimbab and Short Ribs Soup? Please, say less.

Let’s Meat BBQ

Calling all foodies! The only thing better than Korean BBQ is all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but we highly recommend the Spicy Rice Cake, Squid, and Octopus to start. And when you’re ready to dive in, treat yourself to the Berkshire Pork Belly, Spicy Pork Short Rib, and Teriyaki Chicken Breast. Oh, and how could we forget about the Spicy Cold Noodles? *Mouth Waters*

Insa

When it comes to good food, and even better time, Brooklyn is where it’s at. Hey, we see you rolling your eyes! This modern Korean BBQ restaurant not only serves some of the best meat in New York, but it also doubles as a lively Karaoke bar! If that’s not the definition of a “girl who can do both,” we don’t know what is. Menu highlights include the Insa Fried Chicken, Seafood Corn Dog, Spicy Stir-Fried Squid with Udon, and K-town Soft Serve for dessert.

Baekjeong

Originating from the Korean word “butcher,” this famed Korean BBQ restaurant knows a thing or two about buttery, melt-in-your-mouth meat. *Cue the meat sweats* If you’re dining at Baekjeong, it would be a disgrace to not order the Beef and Pork Combo. This decadent bundle comes with Thinly Sliced Beef Brisket, Premium Pork Belly, and Marinated Short Rib. For sides, diners have a choice of Beef Brisket Soybean Paste Stew or Kimchi Stew with Pork Belly.

The Woo

The moment the O Jing Aw Tikum (calamari tempura with a sweet and spicy soy glaze) hits your tongue, you’re guaranteed to scream “woo.” No seriously, it’s one of the most decadent dishes we have ever had. As for the barbecue, we stan the Spicy Marinated Pork Loin, Thinly Sliced Beef Tongue, and for the seafood-lovers, the Yellowfin Tuna, and Shrimp. A+ meal!

Korean BBQ and wine is a power duo you don’t want to mess with. It’s most definitely a splurge, but the American Kobe beef platter is the all-star player of all things Korean BBQ. Designed for two, the platter comes with unseasoned Short Rib, Rib Eye, and Marinated Short Ribs and Rib Eye. And if you’re already balling out, you may as well get the ever-so-delicious Fried Shrimp Dumplings and Seafood and Scallion Korean Pancakes.
