Who’s that Pokémon? It’s eBay!
Okay, eBay is not a Pokémon, but the peer-to-peer marketplace is set to celebrate “Pokémon Day” this Tuesday, Feb. 27, with a special one-day auction event that puts 151 rare Pokémon goodies on the bidding block, with all prices set to start at $1.51.

The Catch 151 auction begins at 12:01 am ET and continues throughout the day.
Rare first edition cards for Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Mewtwo, Zapdos and more are available, as are alternate issues including Dark Charizard and Sabrina’s Gengar. Plus, you can nab one-of-a-kind promo cards including “Pikachu with Gray Felt Hat,” high-value “chase” cards, and collectible Pokémon designer items from collections with Fendi, Tiffany and more.
"Pokémon Day has become an iconic moment for the community to come together and celebrate their fandom,” Gene Cook, VP of Global Collectibles at eBay, is quoted in a press release. “For many Pokémon trainers, hunting down and 'catching' cards and collectibles on eBay is all part of the experience. The 'Catch 151' event is celebrating that dedication by offering one of the most incredible collections of rare, high-end collectibles in a single event."
eBay has been a go-to destination for Pokémon fans to trade and discover rarities since the game began in the late ‘90s, and love for the game only continues to grow. Searched for Pokémon 151 increased by almost 11,000 percent year-over-year in January and October of 2023, the month after Pokémon announced a Van Gogh Museum partnership.
"I've been a huge Pokémon fan since the Red and Blue days, and through eBay I've been able to reach others around the world who share my passion, turning my hobby into a full-time business," says Nick Sergakis, Founder of TheTCGenius store on eBay. "I've sold more than eight thousand Pokémon cards on eBay, and I'm excited to connect with the community through the 'Catch 151' auction in a really fun, unique way on the biggest Pokémon day of the year."
Sergakis is joined in the event by trusted eBay sellers TCA Gaming, ZandGEmporium and more. Of course, all the items are backed by eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee pay homage to the iconic 151 cards from the original trading card game release, while also reflecting the most popular characters and collabs currently trending on eBay—a distinction which has long made eBay a favored choice for trading cards across genres.
