Hajime Sorayama's 'Sexy Robot Floating' is seen in Tokyo.
On September 21, 2021, Hajime Sorayama teased his collaboration with Li-Ning on his social media with Li-Ning posting the teaser the next day. The post is a robotic arm holding an instrument that has Li-Ning written at the top, shining in all of its glory. A sneaker collaboration of the artist and the Olympic-winning designer is coming soon.
Born in Japan in 1947, Hajime Sorayama began drawing while in school and was inspired more when he traveled around the world. Sorayama is now a popular illustrator known for his erotic, feminine creations of robots. He enjoys creating art pieces of women and describes art in his own words, "Art is a kind of tenacity, an insistence upon asserting your own originality ... by contrast, superrealism deals with the technical issue of how close one can get to one's object."
Li-Ning was founded in 1989 by Li Ning, a 1984 Olympic gymnast. He started training in gymnastics when he was eight years old and went on to win six medals in the Olympics in 1984, held in Los Angeles. Ning won three gold medals for floor, pommel horse, and rings, two silver medals for the vault and the team medal, and a bronze medal for the all-around. Li Ning created this brand of athletic clothing for Chinese athletes competing in the Olympics. He expressed the intentions of the brand, “After almost three decades, we are excited to leverage our intrinsic understanding of the athlete’s body and fuse it with an aesthetic, an attitude, and a sense of style that is deeply and uniquely Chinese - yet intended for all.”
The exact release date has not been posted but stay tuned and follow them both on Instagram for further updates on the collaboration.
