Sure, lots of people left New York City this year in search of greener pastures. The COVID-19 pandemic made space a priority as we learned to both work and play at home, and as many professionals were set free from office commutes, a good lot of urbanites sought suburban or even rural environments.
They're not straying too far, though. According to Redfin, all 10 of the "hottest neighborhoods of 2021" are within driving distance from New York City, Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia or Los Angeles. It seems city folk want to be sure they can get to those attractions as soon as restrictions lift. Likewise, plenty buyers cached in on 2020's lower housing costs, especially when it comes to luxury markets.
Redfin crunched the numbers and ranked U.S. cities by zip codes, comparing year-over-year growth in listing views and Redfin Compete Scores, the latter of which measures everything from days on market to share of homes sold above listing prices and sale-to-list price ratio. All that said, the real estate brokeridge was able to list the top three neighborhoods in each city based on median sale price growth, and we take a closer look at New York City's hottest zip codes below.

Tenafly, New Jersey

While this zipcode technically sits across the state lines, it's spaceious lots and proximity to the city make Tenafly the perfect get-away for professionals and families alike. The 07670 zip code saw its median sale price climb to $1,035,000, a 25 percent growth from 2019. Even still, 19 percent of homes listed in this area sold above asking price. close to the nearly 400 wooded acres of Tenafly Nature Center and home to the Knickerbocker Country Club, this affluent NYC suburb offers plenty of green space and outdoor recreation - a big plus during COVID restrictions. There are still stunning homes on the market here, like the stunning, stone castle pictured above. Chappaqua - North Castle - Valhalla

Next on our list is a region of Westchester county comprising of North Castle as well as the hamlets Chappaqua and Valhalla. Homes in this 10504 zipcode were sold at a higher media price of $1,127,000, which only calcuated to 13 percent increase from 2019 prices. The growth is still good news for sellers in the area, as about 25 percent of the homes here sold above asking price. Located right on the border of Connecticut, it'll take you a good hour to drive there from the city, but locals are happy to trade urban streets for bucolic parks, charming town centers and plenty of privacy. Our favorite home currently on the market features 19,000-square-feet of French revival opulence. Listed at $19,500,000 and represented by Dolly Lenz, the Conyers Farm estate was built in 2006 and sits on 10.04 acres. There are eight bedrooms and 10 marble baths, but what really catches our eye is the basketball court, marble steam room, and heated pool and spa.
Pound Ridge - Scotts Corners

Just north west of our last zip code sits another alluring Westchester gem. The Pound Ridge and Scott Corners neighborhoods of 10576 enjoyed an 11 percent year-over-year increase in median sale price, coming in for 2020 at $980,000. Of those homes sold, 28 percent settled above the listing price. Pound Ridge is an especially green stretch of the county, home to the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation park grounds and the Henry Morgenthau Preserve.
