In the bustling city of New York, where life moves at a fast pace, Gathered in Style stands out as a boutique event planner that brings a touch of elegance and sophistication to every occasion. Led by Kristin Mitchell, Gathered in Style believes that events are not just parties but an opportunity to create memorable experiences—"we’re more than just ‘a planner’, we’re your advocate, we’re your confidant, we’re your friend and most importantly, we’re an extension of your team."
Gotham Magazine has teamed up with Gathered in Style to launch a monthly series titled "Back to the Basics" to celebrate the art of hosting and guide viewers on how to effortlessly elevate everyday gatherings into unforgettable moments.
As summer arrives, what better way to celebrate than by hosting a chic and stylish BBQ in the heart of New York City? In the first installment of "Back to the Basics," Gathered in Style provides tips on how to take your rooftop BBQ to new heights. From elegant table settings and refreshing signature cocktails to creative grilled menu items, they offer a step-by-step guide to elevate your summer BBQ experience.
Building a menu with delicious, whole foods and supporting small business owners is always the move when entertaining. Period. Choosing easy dishes you can marinate/prep the night before is key. For the menu she chose: marinated BBQ chicken, herb potato salad, corn on the cob and sliced watermelon (some may or may not have been tequila soaked). Additionally, on this spread, she featured @edysgrocer who has amazing pre-made dips and bites to keep your grazing table delicious and vibrant.
Spending time with guests is the most important part of hosting - you don't want to be stuck in the kitchen making food last minute or feeling stressed when guests come over. When you prepare in advance, you will have more time to make your guest experience beautiful! All of your shopping, prepping and organization should be done on the days BEFORE guests come over.
While weaving in eco-friendly details does require some thought, it’s much easier these days as there are many more sustainably chic options to choose from. Here she used bamboo @sophistiplate and single-use @mydrap_northamerica cocktail napkins to not only help minimize the impact on the environment, but elevate the BBQ look.
Summer BBQ’s are made for gingham, right? We think so. This is why Kristin immediately fell in love with this gingham tablecloth and runner from @misettetable. It elevated the whole look and make it all feel way more special, yet still approachable for a BBQ.
We’re big fans of florals—whether they're professionally arranged, or picked up from your neighborhood florist or grocery store—anything works! They are the perfect final touch to any table.
This goes without saying. Hosting guests IS FUN—enjoy yourself!
Stay tuned for upcoming installments of "Back to the Basics" dropping each month. Whether you're hosting a Sunday brunch, a relaxed pizza and wine night, or a cozy tea party at home, Gathered in Style demonstrates that even the simplest occasions can be elevated with creativity, attention to detail, and a touch of sophistication. So why settle for mediocrity when you can gather in style?
