On Thursday, April 25, 2019, hundreds of Aussies and their American friends congregated at Donna Karan’s Urban Zen store for the It’s Your Shout! benefit for Ads-Up, a non-profit supporting Manus and Nauru refugees. Hosted by InStyle editor Laura Brown and actresses Naomi Watts and Rose Byrne, the fete contained food and beverages donated by Australian vendors such as Ruby’s Cafe, Bird in Hand, Four Pillars Gin, Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, Peppi’s Cellar and Gran Tivoli. In response to the “black tie or beach” dress code, guests’ ensembles ranged from sharply cut tuxedos to board shorts, and their donations raised $120,000 to support 500 refugees. The event peaked when refugees in person and on video gave their harrowing accounts of struggling through Australia’s immigration policies and detention centers.
