You may remember Olivia Rodrigo’s monochromatic purple look from the 2022 Met Gala, and if you are like me, you have been on the hunt for the butterfly hair accessories for months. Thankfully, the search is officially over because Jennifer Behr and Betsey Johnson have just announced the release of the limited-edition butterfly capsule collection.
“I’ve always loved embracing the embellished and over the top, and this capsule does just that,” said Betsey Johnson. “These butterfly styles have such a special place in my heart. Bringing these pieces back to life from my past collections they perfectly combine my fun, girly and punk view on fashion. I’m so glad to partner with Jennifer Behr to reimagine these iconic styles for the next generation.”
This collection inspired by Rodrigo’s look, embodies the brands’ respective unique whimsical styles.
The butterfly capsule pays homage to one of Betsey Johnson’s iconic Spring/ Summer 1997 runway show, in which the models wore similar teal and pink butterfly headpieces. Meanwhile Behr’s headpiece expertise has its own history with butterflies, playing with them as a motif throughout her various collections, making this collaboration a no-brainer. The pieces are a balance of romance and whimsy, creating an ethereal look that is the perfect accessory for any occasion.

The Gala Butterfly and The Gabby Bobby Pin can be worn alone or layered throughout the hair and embody the playful early-2000s fashion that is so chic today. The Gala style is made from silk organza and features Swarovski crystals throughout the wings, while the Gabby style has a more delicate hand-painted look, both of which are effortlessly beautiful.
“Since I started designing, butterflies have always been a source of inspiration," Jennifer Behr said. "We love to reimagine the silhouette and have created an endless assortment of butterfly clips, earrings and headbands over the years. That’s what made this project so special. Butterflies represent renewal and this was the perfect opportunity to bring such an iconic shape to life in a new way. When I saw Betsey’s runway inspiration, I knew that we could create pieces that would perfectly embody both of our brands."
The highly sought-after pieces are limited-edition and are now available for pre-order on the brands' respective websites.
