Home & Real Estate,
After nearly two decades of ownership, Oscar winner Kate Winslet let go of her NYC penthouse.
According to the New York Post, the Titanic star sold the duplex in Chelsea for $5.3 million. Winslet was represented by Douglas Ellerman and the Lindsay Barton Barrett Team. The unit was originally listed for $5,699,000.
Winslet purchased the residence for $4.99 million in 2004 with her former husband, Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes. One year after their divorce, Winslet bought out Mendes’s shares in 2012. She rented the residence out for years at a price of $30,000 a month.
The stunning property boasts 3,000 square foot, four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, and a smashing 1,700-square-foot roof deck. Other amenities include 13-foot-tall ceilings, a chef’s kitchen and a terrace.
The luxury apartment is designed with a vintage vibe. A clawfoot bathtub and wainscoting panels gives the primary suite bathroom an elegant, classic look. The great room is minimalist in design, while a gas fireplace brings a cozy atmosphere.
The tall ceilings and a dozen oversized windows let heaps of sunlight into the space from three sides, while built-in storage displays maximize efficiency.
A large, open chef’s kitchen provides plenty of room for meal prep and entertaining, as well as a cantilevered snack bar. Decked out with whitewashed, wide-plank oak floors and high-end designer appliances such as butcher block kitchen counters, recessed cabinets and stainless-steel appliances, make this kitchen a stand-out space.
The upstairs terrace is the true pièce de résistance, providing 1,600-square-feet of space and a full view of the High Line.
According to the Post, the buyer is an anonymous shell company. Winslet primarily lives on a multi-acre, 18th-century estate in southern England with her third husband, Edward Abel Smith. The land overlooks Chichester Harbor. No doubt it’s the perfect spot to get away and relax between shooting engagements.
Winslet is currently starring in HBO’s hit TV show Mare of Easttown. Learn more about the sale and see pictures of the gorgeous Chelsea penthouse via the New York Post.
