Southampton Sweat Founder Leah Landon on Sweat, Success & Summer!

Is there anything Leah Landon can’t do? Not only did the business maven found the super popular Southampton Sweat, she also serves as the Vice President of Brand Experience at Juice Press. Before this, Landon spent more than a decade in the music industry working with stars like Lady Gaga, Eve, Fat Joe… the list goes on. But it doesn’t stop there. Landon also produced several reality shows for E! and VH1. The quadruple threat then transitioned out of entertainment to focus on wellness and is a certified yoga instructor, health coach, natural food chef, pilates instructor, spin instructor and has a master’s in clinical social work. No big deal, right? Certainly not for Landon, who makes it look all so easy. We sat down with the force of nature to chat about her upcoming fitness festival and what makes her so good at everything!


How did you make the transition from the music industry into the health/wellness industry?
LEAH LANDON: When I left the music industry, I wanted to use my hands and my body to help others. I started teaching yoga, spin and went to cooking school. I became a health coach and eventually got a master's in clinical social work. However, the sizzle of business still had a gravitational pull. As a talent manager, one of my jobs was to spot talent. As an early customer at Juice Press, I saw how they were changing our culture's relationship to organic cold-pressed juice, superfood smoothies, and organic raw foods. I knew I had to get involved. I took a job making smoothies and washing dishes for $9/hour. A few years later, I was the Vice President, Brand Experience. Southampton Sweat is a culmination of all of my interests and an expression of my life experiences and passions.

Music and entertainment is a meaningful part of my background, so people coming together for festivals—making a day or weekend out of that experience of enjoying something beloved together—is the most natural thing in the world to me. I wanted to recreate that experience for the fitness community. Wellness and fitness are the current focuses of my personal and professional lives and Southampton Sweat was a natural extension of my own personal daily lifestyle.

What makes Southampton Sweat different than other music and fitness festivals?
LL: I am proud to say, we were first to market. Five years ago, I watched what my friends did with Wanderlust and yoga and followed their successful blueprint for fitness. At the time, fitness was exploding as a social and cultural phenomenon and it inspired me to create a space where people came together. We took the best people in the business and brought them together to create energy, enthusiasm, and connection. I really want to demonstrate that people can be a part of a community effort and a communal whole, while at the same time focusing on their own experience, peak performance and becoming the best version of themselves. On a more granular level, it's an opportunity for attendees to try out a number of new class styles in a short period of time, for fitness die-hards to take on the challenge of 5 straight hours of NYC's toughest (and most fun) workouts, and even for studio owners and instructors to connect and recognize industry best practices. Lastly, I love the idea of like-minded individuals connecting through positive activity.

Why are you excited about this year’s Southampton Sweat?
LL: Having Christie Brinkley and Sailor hosting is a testament to the enthusiasm and energy surrounding Southampton Sweat. We are so grateful for how our community is embracing and supporting the festival. We are also thrilled to have Akin, Tonehouse, Taryn Toomey, Dogpound and AKT who have supported Southampton Sweat since year one. Newcomers Mile High Run Club, Brick Crossfit, and Soho Strength Lab are sure to add positive memories to this year's experience.

What is next for Southampton Sweat?
LL: We are looking for opportunities to carry the message and experience of Sweat across various cities and communities. We want to continue to partner with the disruptors in the fitness and wellness space. We hope to keep opening up to broaden the community especially to those who have yet to experience the Sweat lifestyle.

What is your favorite thing to order at Juice Press?
LL: I am very lucky to be part of the Innovation team at Juice Press. I am very proud of my contributions to the menu, such as the clean eating plan which allows Juice Press the opportunity to care for the nutritional needs of our customers with a full day of organic foods, juices, and soups. Blue Magic is on fire right now as the #1 smoothie in the company. Green Light is #2. I was inspired to create both of those smoothies based on my own dietary practices. I am honored by how our Juice Press audience has embraced these products.

What are some of your favorite summer health tips?
LL: Get in the ocean. My mother is in Brighton Beach waters 6 am everyday, even in the winter. She says the ocean heals everything.
