The legacy of Virgil Abloh lives on in Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Pre-Fall 2022 Collection, and that legacy has come to New York City via a special SoHo pop-up, open now through early June.
The Men’s collection is called Daybreak, and it marks the final capsule that the legendary and innovative Abloh designed for the fashion house. Abloh passed away after a private battle with cancer in November of 2021.
The Daybreak designs carry the career-long message of Abloh, looking at the development of traditional fashion and how it relates to the public's desires.
“My philosophy is very much informed by the clothes that people actually wear,” Abloh is quoted in a press release. “What I do is an analysis of a generation: what do people buy and why do they wear it? That question naturally creates an equal interest in tradition as it does in changing tradition—but it’s also about challenging myself and exploring different lands. That is creative freedom.”
The pop-up features ready-to-wear pieces in vibrant hues along with Louis Vuitton staple accessories and leather goods. The bold monogram mohair cardigan, the creative and structured karakoram denim pants, and the LV trainer sneakers best exemplify Abloh's freedom of imagination and the base of his design DNA.
Louis Vuitton calls the collection a “symbolic fusion,” blending the traditional dress codes of sportswear, streetwear and workwear in one collection that honors the philosophies and past collections of its iconic designer.
The pop-up design mirrors the collection's overall aesthetic, with geometric shapes and colors that shine throughout the collection. Visiting the Daybreak collection is an entire experience, from the first-seen pieces to the structural design.
The Daybreak collection is just one of the many temporary residents Louis Vuitton has opened in SoHo in celebration of Abloh’s admirable collections. Previously, LV featured a Fall/Winter 2021 ready-to-wear collection, showcasing the once-again spirited designs of Abloh, complemented by rainbow colors throughout the store.
