Manolo Blahnik rings in 50 years with a dazzling new collection inspired by the designer’s storied five-decade career.
Marking half a century of sumptuous shoes, bags and accessories, Manolo Blahnik unveiled a stunning gold capsule that acutely captures the well-loved decadence of the brand. For the occasion, this monumental collection features 19 gleaming golden styles, ranging from never-before-seen shapes to revamped classics like the Hangisi. Deeply personal and representative of Blahnik’s prosperous five-decade career, the collection draws from all aspects of the brand as well as the designer’s life—each shoe reveals a new layer of Manolo Blahnik, perfectly encapsulating the influence and importance of the brand today, and is “based on archive shoes, which have meant so much to me personally, along with lots of other divine things,” as the designer notes.
Inspired by his childhood, the front of the Rayuela boot and the anklet chain of the Campanilla sandals feature delicate bell detailing similar to the charm bracelet Blahnik’s mother used to wear. “My favorite is the Rayuela,” Blahnik says. “An exaggerated boot with bells, how chic!” Likewise, some of the most beloved, timeless silhouettes such as Hangisi, Maysale, Lurum and Nadira have been reimagined with liquid gold, satins and fine mesh, and embellishments have been made with citrine crystals to enhance the golden shine. In tribute to the designer’s use of materials of the highest quality, he created the Ignia stand-alone mule finished with exquisite feathered detailing and striking gold foil.
