One again, fashion's biggest night reigns over the first Monday of May. The Met Gala is back on May 2, bringing to the eponymous museum the biggest stars from entertainment and fashion. As we prepare to witness the exquisite wins and jaw-dropping failures of celebrities, models and society elite, we’ve rounded up all the must-know information about the 2022 Met Gala.
Alongside honorary co-chairs Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri and Anna Wintour, Regina King, Lin-Manuel-Miranda, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively will host the event. Previously, Part One, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, was hosted by Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka last fall.
Closing out The Costume Institute's trilogy of period-room shows, the 2022 Met Gala signals the May 7 opening of In America: An Anthology of Fashion, which runs until Sept. 5. It first began with Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century in 2004, followed by AngloMania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion in 2006. The new exhibition will feature men’s and women’s dress from the 18th century to the present, highlighting more than three centuries of American domestic life.
Given the exhibition’s subject matter, the dress code for the 2022 Met Gala is gilded glamor. As reported by Vogue, attendees’ dress should embrace Gilded Age New York. The fashion publication explained that the era, which spanned 1870 to 1890, marked unprecedented prosperity, cultural change and industrialization.
As the most infamous source of fashion, Vogue will livestream the Met Gala. Beginning at 6 p.m. ET, it will air the highly-anticipated red carpet arrivals across its digital platforms, including on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Those tuning in will be guided through fashion’s biggest night by Vanessa Hudgens, La La Anthony and Vogue editor-at-large Hamish Bowles.
Recently, social media resounded in a swelling outcry over the news that Zendaya would not be attending this year’s Met Gala. However, plenty of celebrity and fashion favorites are set to hit the red carpet, guaranteeing a spectacular night to come. An official guest list is not made available ahead of the event, but Sydney Sweeney did confirm her plans to attend in an April interview with Vogue. Based on past attendance, rumored guests include members of the Kardashian family, Bella Hadid, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, Jared Leto, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Megan Fox and Timothée Chalamet. Fingers crossed for a Rihanna showing! Though given her estimated due date is just around the corner, it’s fairly unlikely we’ll witness the star’s ultimate baby belly-fashion moment.
