The new Michael Kors Collection boutique, opening today on the corner of Madison and 61st Street, is the first rendition of the new store concept to hit the East Coast.
Replacing the designer’s previous store at 790 Madison Avenue, the Michael Kors Collection boutique provides a reprieve from the city’s hustle and bustle through its minimal and elevated design. Soaring 14-foot-tall ceilings and a neutral color palette crafted through wood, blackened steel, raw concrete, antique brass and oxidized maple combine for a refreshingly airy yet grounded space.
Each of the 2,800 square feet of retail space has been carefully curated for a luxurious guest experience. Brooklyn-based artist Max Simon designed a nearly 10-foot-long Modernist mobile that greets customers in the front room for a dramatic entrance. Also of note are the oversize Noguchi lamp that creates a welcoming ambiance in the shoe salon and the grand sheets of black and white marble that blanket two walls.
Finally, rich textiles bring warmth to the space, creating a truly relaxing shopping experience. Outside, the store façade mirrors the interiors through elegant, minimalist design, complete with towering windows that flood the store with natural light.
“New York City is my home, and I’m very excited to bring our new vision to a new location on Madison Avenue,” says designer Michael Kors. “The store’s interior has a welcoming feel, a sense of luxury and refinement that offers you a chance to step away from the speed of city life and take some time to discover something new.”
