While the world slowly comes out of its COVID-19 fog, people have begun to feel more adventurous. Some are leaving their homes for weekend getaways in less densely-populated areas - those who haven’t already left for warm and sandy beaches, that is.
Plotting our trek out of the city, we filled our 2021 Lincoln Aviator with supplies and set out to discover the best places for a safe, socially-distant getaway near New York City. Some of these places are a couple hours drive, so comfort is key. The Lincoln Aviator’s seats have built in back massagers. Honestly, we found the drive a little too short.

For those who really want to be in nature, we suggest heading a little further north to the famed Urban Cowboy Lodge in Big Indian, New York. Clocking in at a two-and-a-half-hour drive, this sanctuary offers an elevated camping experience. Known for their chic suites and in-suite bathtub, the picturesque views of the stars over the mountains will lull you to sleep. If that doesn’t do it for you, their collection of local wines absolutely will. While on-site dining is limited due to covid restrictions, the Lodge encourages you to order pick up from neighboring restaurants Peekamoose, Silvia in Woodstock and Phoenicia Diner. These are all places you’ve likely seen on Instagram, and they're all worth the trip.
