After sharpening his skills at Balmain, Valentino and Saks, June79 founder and chief architect Shawn Pean was ready to launch his own line. We polled the style setter for the latest.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SENSE OF STYLE? When it comes to my sense of style… I would personally consider myself a modern-traditionalist. I have always loved traditional fabrics and accessorizing to create a unique and stylish look. I’m also a big fan of wearing monochromatic colors. It’s a clean and great look that can never go wrong.
“My signature look is a June79 navy Essentials Pierre blazer and Pierre trouser paired with a white banded collared shirt and my favorite go-to Mallet Popham sneaker in white,” says Pean; “Until My brand launches… Mallet London is the best sneaker in the world! But as I always say, there’s plenty of room at the table.”
WHAT’S NOW AND NEXT FOR YOU? There are so many things happening that I don’t know where to begin. June79 is expanding beyond suiting with a knitwear program that spans everything between tees to cardigans. Additionally, for summer ’22 we’re launching men’s footwear. This is especially exciting and personal to me as I was a key contributor in my earlier days as a buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue, leading the way in men’s footwear. Based on this experience and my vision, we’re creating something disruptive and are excited to share this collection with the world.

FASHION MANTRA? I am a cautiously aggressive dresser and my style absolutely reflects that. I used to wear navy Cucinelli suits with my Timberlands. Both conservative and progressive men would always tell me I looked great, but they could never pull it off themselves. It told me that they appreciated my vision but could not see themselves in what I was wearing. This advice helped frame my approach in building the foundation for June79 with a focus on translating and demystifying elements of this style to be approachable for all.
