On September 9th, 2022, Australian fashion house Aje made its first off-schedule appearance at New York Fashion Week.

The brand debuted a curation of looks from the SS23 Lumen collection at an immersive presentation at Roll & Hill. The collection holds true to the brand’s archetypical Australian coastal to urban style, demonstrating raw beauty and tough femininity. Lumen pays homage to the perennial beauty and power of dawn, a symbol of hope and new beginnings. The romantic collection redefines iconic Aje silhouettes through dramatic layers of accordion plating, unique cornelli embellishment, hand-appliqued pearl and organza floral motifs, and gold pin and pearl stud detailing. Contemporary corsetry adorns each look with asymmetrical draping and pleat-and-release pintucks that contour the body. The color palette of dawn pink, lilac and violet complements cool yellows and sky blues for a color arrangement reminiscent of daybreak.
The presentation transformed Roll & Hill into a serene indoor garden inspired by the Noguchi Garden of Southern California. Natural stone islands and organic materials reflected the brand’s intrinsic appreciation for nature. Mannequins donned key Lumen looks, complete with Aje’s distinctive volume, movement and sculptural silhouettes, while standing among organic stone structures and Australian eucalyptus and protea plants. Guests enjoyed an Australian-inspired menu of light bites curated by chef Woldy Reyes, including Vegemite toast, sesame encrusted rice balls, mochi rice cake and mini pavlova. Vivanterre natural wine flowed throughout the presentation.
