Who is the Peach & Lily customer?
ALICIA YOON: The Peach & Lily customer can be a lot of people, from people who are just starting out on their skincare journeys to well-seasoned beauty experts who know exactly what they want for their skin. At the core, though, the Peach & Lily customer is looking for skincare that delivers big results. They’re research-oriented and try to understand their skin as best they can and they want to learn about the latest and greatest in skincare. They know it’s not about trends but about what really works.
What’s the most exciting part of building your brand over the last 7 years?
AY: Building a community and hearing everyone’s stories. There are of course so many fun parts (and so many challenges) of building a brand, but, at the end of the day, it’s really about this community. I love hearing people’s skin stories and how our products have helped empower them to care for their skin.
What does beauty mean to you?
AY: Beauty is about love and empowerment. It’s about self-expression and self-care. The 10-step Korean routine has gotten a lot of attention for being so intensive, but Korean skincare really isn’t about having 10 steps — there are also 3-step Korean skincare routines! The point is to take the time to care for your skin and, in doing so, care for yourself. It’s when you’re taking care of yourself that you’re able to take care of other people, of your community and I think there’s something really beautiful and empowering about that.
What are your beauty routine must haves?
AY: The easy answer would be sheet masks — I think it’s well-known that I love sheet masks! Other beauty routine must-haves — a gentle, hydrating cleanser is a must. Our Power Calm Hydrating Gel Cleanser is one of my absolute must-haves because it’s sulfate-free and doesn’t compromise the natural skin barrier, which is foundational to achieving your best skin.
The Glass Skin Refining Serum, of course, is something I never, ever skip; I can always tell when I’ve skipped it. And then I always have to have a great moisturizer that’s appropriate for the season — in the summer, I use the Peach Slices Citrus Honey Aqua Glow because it’s lightweight but nourishing and hydrating. It also preps skin well for makeup; it’s buildable and won’t pill.
And an SPF is a must-have, no matter what, every single day.
Your masks have a cult following, which one is your favorite?
AY: It’s hard to pick! I’d have to say our Original Glow Sheet Mask. We create all our products with our community in mind, but the Original Glow was really special because we got so much thoughtful feedback from our community as we were developing it. I love all our sheet masks and use them all regularly, but the Original Glow I think really helps skin instantly regain that healthy, hydrated glow.
Tell us about your hero product, the Glass Skin Refining Serum. What was the inspiration?"AY: Glass skin, poreless, luminous, translucent skin (aka healthy, hydrated skin). We’d been talking about glass skin a lot, but there wasn’t anything on the market that would really help people get glass skin. It can sound impossible to achieve, so people would get discouraged before even getting started. So we were like, “Why don’t we create a product that makes it easy for everyone to get glass skin?”
We knew what we wanted the Glass Skin Refining Serum to be — we wanted it to be super nourishing, hydrating and, most of all, completely worry-free so all skin types could use it. We wanted it to absorb quickly and help minimize pores and we wanted to provide it at an affordable price point. And, most of all, we wanted it to be super effective.
I think we succeeded; our Glass Skin is full of beautiful ingredients that help hydrate and nourish skin and minimize the appearance of pores. It’s been a year since Glass Skin launched, what has the journey of creating such a cult-favorite product been like?
AY: It’s been exhilarating. We spent years crafting and perfecting the formula and we were confident that Glass Skin was a great product. You just never know how people will receive things, though. What are you most excited about for summer 2019?
AY: We’re celebrating Glass Skin’s one-year birthday all summer long, with special pop-ups in different cities. And I don’t want to give too much away, but we’re launching something new and exciting at the end of the summer!
