The Olympics and Paralympics are a time for global celebration, and a time for each of those participating to showcase and stand-up for national pride.
Team USA is planning to rock a bold yet classic design during both the opening and closing ceremonies of this year’s Winter Olympics in Beijing, and because the looks are designed by Ralph Lauren, they’ll look cool while keeping warm.

Ralph Lauren will outfit Team USA in high-tech jackets and pants, along with patriotic crewnecks, beanies and other warm items for the Beijing Winter Olympics Ceremonies. Modeled by Team USA’s top Winter athletes, the jackets and pants are most notable for their innovative touches.

The Team USA Opening Ceremony Anorak is equipped with Skyscrape Intelligent Insulation. According to Ralph Lauren’s website, the patented fabric responds by expanding as temperature drops to offer more warmth without the use of batteries.
For the closing ceremony, the jackets have been crafted with Polartec fleece in the hood and PrimaLoft Collection Black Insulation Eco fill to keep the athletes warm.

This is not Ralph Lauren’s first time working with the Olympics or Paralympics. The brand designed fashion for the athletes of last year’s Summer Olympics in Tokyo that embraced modernity through RL Cooling technology, a step to help athletes beat the summer heat of Japan.
Similar to the Summer sports collection, these most recent creations include the official logo patch of the U.S. Olympic team, an American flag patch and the brand’s “Big Pony” symbol. Both jackets feature the phrase “United We Stand” where the hood meets the back.
The designs are patriotic and traditional, with simple lines, gradients and patterns used throughout. Throughout the collection, most of the designs center around Team USA identifiers, patriotic color blocks and Olympic Rings. On some select pieces, the “Polo Bear” is printed donning Ralph Lauren’s Olympic gear.

This year’s Winter Games haven’t been without controversy. The United States government announced a diplomatic boycott from the games, citing “genocide and crimes against humanity” against the Uyghur and other predominantly Muslim minorities in Xinjiang. While Team USA will be present and outfitted at the Olympics and Paralympics, U.S. government officials will not be in attendance.
