In this installment of Sadick Files, we turn the mic on our columnist, who is releasing her debut book, Aim High: How To Style Your Life And Achieve Your Goals ($25), as we catch her in a conversation with Fern Mallis, who wrote the book's foreword.
Our style correspondent tries her hand at book writing on a subject she knows all too well.
First off, as a journalist, it’s truly something I’ve always dreamed about doing! Having appeared on over 100 fashion television segments nationwide, I wanted to create a tangible destination where I could blend fashion advice to help you live fearlessly, dress effortlessly and find your style from within, while also sharing some personal unfiltered stories.
Whether they’re in high school, a millennial or are in their 60s, women of any age can relate to the book. I reference multiple generations of family members and how fashion has always been passed down in our family. Shopping my grandma’s and mom’s closets were always the most fun shopping ‘trips’ for me.
Oh boy [laughs]. I’m very fortunate that I get sent a lot of products from brands. Now that I’m not getting my makeup professionally done, I’m definitely going through more makeup than usual and have had time to explore new brands and products. Clothes... I buy a few things each month and am careful to mix high and low. I spend more on classic pieces, like a great purse or pair of shoes, and less on the trendy fashion clothing.
Since quarantine started, it’s included lots of tie-dye. Since I became a home hermit, I’m more casual than ever.
I mainly give it to The RealReal and use the money I make to buy what I want for the next season, but I also donate.
I hope people will feel more comfortable and confident trying new things and showing their personal style. Fashion is a form of expression, and after being home for so many months, I think people will want to feel renewed.
By constantly pushing and challenging yourself while also staying true to who you are. If you set your mind to one thing each day, or even each week, and you’re striving to achieve that goal, that’s aiming high. We each have a perception of what aiming high is for us.
More television fashion segments for sure and a new concept that will pivot the popular Lunchtimes with Sydney Instagram Lives that I started during quarantine. Plus, lots of fun brand partnerships. Stay tuned!
Aim High is available for preorder now on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble. It will be released Sept. 15.
