September in New York City is the hot spot for all things fashion. New York Fashion Week is even more highly-anticipated than ever as it re-emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, and come next Monday, the Met Gala also makes a triumphant return.
Even if you’re not in NYC, you can still get in on all the fashionable fun, thanks to The Met Store.
In celebration of this year’s Met Gala theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” the Metropolitan Museum of Art teamed with Vogue and Instagram on the online collaboration, which allows shopper from around the country and the globe to buy designs from an array of American designers, all inspired by the Americana theme.

The fun kicks off with a collection by Virgil Abloh and his label Off-White, set for special reveal via Instagram Live on Friday, Sept. 10, at 11:45 EST. The Instagram live will be hosted by Eva Chen, the director of fashion at Instagram and will include special guests. Clothing from the collection will be available after the event.
Other designers to be featured include Emily Bode of Bode, Aurora James of Brother Vellies, Christopher John Rogers, Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada, Rio Uribe of Gypsy Sport, Prabal Gurung, and Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss.
Most of the designers featured in The Met Store will also be exhibited in The Met’s “America” exhibit, and each capsule will be unveiled in an Instagram live shopping event, similar to Friday’s launch with Abloh.
A true picture of the American dream, Abloh was born in Rockford, IL., and grew up with his father and seamstress mother. His interest in fashion was first sparked at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he was enrolled as a civil engineering major. While studying for his Master’s Degree, Abloh designed t-shirts and wrote about fashion for a blog called The Brilliance.
Today, Abloh serves as an artistic director for Louis Vuitton, whose parent company LVMH just bought a 60 percent stake in his Off-White fashion line this past July. He’s more than a fit figure to launch The Met Gala store this Friday.
The “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” exhibit at The Met will be open to guests for about a year, kicking off Saturday, Sept. 18, through Monday, Sept. 5 of 2022. Learn more about The Met Store via Vogue.
