“She was really hesitant to come [at first],” said Barrett Wilbert Weed, who plays Sawyer in Heathers: The Musical. “That movie is really dear to her. It’s kind of what jumpstarted her entire career. But when she did come, she was really overwhelmed and really happy. We were over the moon happy that she loved it so much and that she was crying and hanging out with us!”
“Dan Waters, who wrote the movie, has been really heavily involved in our production,” said Weed. “He’s said that what we’ve accomplished in our final draft of the show is closer to what he had hoped to accomplish in the movie.”

“Heather Chandler, Kurt and Ram, they die in the film and they’re some of the most hilarious parts of the movie,” said Ryan McCartan, who plays JD, aka Christian Slater's part. “With the magic of musical theater, just because someone dies doesn’t mean that they disappear from the show. We get to keep Heather Chandler, Kurt and Ram 'alive,' which really helps keep it on the lighter side.”
“We have a lot of Heathers super-fans come and say, ‘Oh my God. We love this because we love the movie,'" said McCartan. "But one of the most amazing things that I’ve experienced is that fans came to me who are 15, 16, 17, and they’re like, ‘We’re in high school right now and this is our life; this is high school.’”
